Meet The Makers

Meet The Makers

Dear LuvLoopers,

After receiving lots of questions regarding how LuvLoops’ jewellery is made and where it all comes from, today we're bringing you a blog post all about it!

Today we'll get a look into the history of LuvLoops journey in regards to finding (or being found) a company to work with on our jewellery pieces, the materials used for these and the process in which we go from the idea to the final product.

Let's take a look at the first part, shall we?

The LuvLoops Maker History

At the very beginning of the LuvLoops' journey, Essa worked with a factory in India to create her handmade jewellery. However, due to Covid-19, there were many delays in the shipping.

It wasn't long until a Thai company reached out wanting to work with Essa on her jewellery and she had to make the decision whether to leave or stay with the current factory she was with...

Choosing What Factory To Go With

When considering working with a new factory (in this case the Thai company), Essa explained that she will always request them to let her know their ethics and she will always ask them to send her every certificate they have, such as proof they use ethically sourced materials and proof of the production process.

She will also ask that they send a sample to ensure they meet the standards and quality she is looking for because it is her responsibility to her LuvLoopers to do so.

Likewise, regarding labour rights for this particular company, Essa checked that the staff are working the correct amount of hours as according to the law, they are all part of Thailand social security and that no children or illegal force are hired.

After receiving all of these things from the Thai company that reached out to her, Essa decided to make the switch.

Her other key reasons for changing factories were:

  1. They offered good quality
  2. They had better communication and service
  3. They had less delays
  4. Their values aligned with Essa's in regards to sustainability

The Materials used for your Jewellery Pieces

The most asked question our LuvLoopers sent in was about why LuvLoops doesn't use waterproof materials and the founder of the company, Essa Chen, outlined a few key reasons as to why this is.

  1. The waterproof materials are usually stainless steel

Stainless steel is a metal that your food utensils tend to be made from.

According to the British Stainless Steel Association, stainless steel is generally considered unacceptable for a material basically selected for its aesthetic appearance and corrosion resistance.

Essa further explained that due to stainless steel being such a hard material to use, it is very difficult to put details onto the metal so if she were to use this material, she would have to use much more minimal and simpler designs for her jewellery pieces.

2. Pure silver jewellery is too soft

Essa explained how many high-end jewellery brands often use silver because it is considered a semi-precious metal and it is much softer than stainless steel.

However, because 99% of pure silver is too soft, LuvLoops tends to use sterling silver (S925) and you will be able to see a hallmark on every piece of Essa’s jewellery that is made from this material.

Sterling silver is also easier to work with because it allows very detailed and intricate designs to be created and put onto the jewellery pieces.

3. LuvLoops uses gold plating for the finishing touches

What gives LuvLoops’ jewellery that beautiful golden glow is the gold plating it uses as the finishing touch!

LuvLoops uses the thickest gold material that you can find on the market, which is 2.5 microns, and it is the highest quality of gold too.

This is why it is so important to follow the jewellery care tips provided with your purchases because it allows the shine of the jewellery to last for at least a year or two.

And, even if it does get tarnished back to silver, it won’t harm your skin.

4. All materials used are recycled

Essa finally explained that the factory works with recycled metals (gold and silver) from Arezzo Refinery Co. Ltd. This is to ensure the jewellery is as sustainable and ethically sourced as possible.

Let's all work hard to help our planet stay healthy!

An Overview of the Production Process

The Entire Jewellery Process. Essa designs the jewellery piece. 2. Design is sent to the factory. 3. Factory sends a 3D picture back of what the product would look like. 4. Sample is then sent to Essa and she will either confirm or send corrections for another sample. 5. Production takes 6-8 weeks and the difficult process can sometimes cause delays.
